We are represented by a broad range of qualified coaches with diverse backgrounds of experience and styles.

Ranging from years of experience with local and regional SCVA teams to decades of international experience on the Egyptian Nationals team and, seperately, the Korean National team including World Cup participation in Japan.

Because of their love for the game, many of our coaches graduated from playing in to coaching; while others are eager to bring complementary skills and techniques from other sports.

All, have a positive, encouraging approach to coaching and an untarnished record of working with young people.

Mina Guirguis

Mina comes to SportsWorld with a 13 year history of remarkable individual achievements and team victories in volleyball on the local, national, international and world stages.

Beginning in high school, Mina repeatedly earned the ranking of “Best Setter in the country” at the high school level and continued being recognized for his stand-out performance at the club level, college level, university level, state level, national level, and more.

As a Setter (“play maker” outside the US), Mina led his teams to medal in national competitions, the Mediterranean International Tournament, the Middle Eastern Nations Cup, the World Military Cup, the African Nations Cup, and the Tour de France.

Mina's repeated success comes from his depth of knowledge about the rules, skills and strategy of the game. He has a calming personality that masks his fanatic approach to volleyball. He is an “on the court” coach who naturally motivates athletes of all ages by demonstrating and explaining what is expected.

Mina also owns and operates his own business, Comfort-Pedic Mattress Factory, and lives in the Inland Empire with his wife and twin sons.

Joseph Gurgis

Joseph began playing volleyball as a Setter and Right-Side Hitter during high school in Alexandria Egypt where he helped capture six Gold Medals in their High School Games. During the same time, he also played club volleyball for the Alexandria Sporting Club and helped to earn a Silver Medal in the Egyptian Clubs Under 14 age division.

Joseph continued in the sport after high school, as he helped his teams take the Silver Medal in the Egyptian Companies Championship, a Gold in the Egyptian Colleges League and Silver in the Egyptian Universities League.

Joseph was then selected for the Alexandria National Team four consecutive years, where he and his teams earned a Gold and Silver in the Egyptian States League.

While contributing as a teammate with the National teams, Joseph also coached successful boy's teams in the 12 & Under and 14 & Under age brackets for three years.

His breadth of personal experience in the sport of volleyball from the high school to national levels and his longstanding interest in helping young players grow into the sport make Joseph a natural fit on the SportsWorld coaching roster.

Vivian Varga, Leagues Director

Vivian began playing volleyball at the age of 11 and by high school was playing year-round for Southern California club teams during the SCVA season and for Notre Dame High School during the school season; JV as a Freshman and Varsity each of the next three years.

In college, Vivian transitioned from playing into coaching and has been doing so professionally ever since.

She has successfully developed and managed teams at the 12-and-under and 14-and-under age divisions for several years because of her ability to identify the skills and potential of the individual player. She concentrates on introducing these age-groups to the fundamentals of the game, its positions and the importance of good team communication.

Vivian's depth of success and experience introducing young people to the sport of volleyball in a positive, supportive way, makes her a great coach for the younger age divisions and the ideal person to manage our SportsWorld Leagues Division.

Robert “Tito” Quintero

Robert first began studying the game of volleyball while in middle school.

As a freshman at Notre Dame High School he became know as “Tito”, where he began managing their girls volleyball team while simultaneously playing-on and helping to build Notre Dame's newly created boys high school team.

Robert continued playing all four years while at Notre Dame.

His coaching career immediately followed, when he began coaching 12 and under girls for St. Francis De Sales.

Robert feeds his passion for the sport of volleyball by coaching for juniors' programs and playing in local adult leagues - both of which give him the ideal perspective to coach our emerging players in the SportsWorld Junior League.

“Smokey” Millwood

Smokey has been involved with volleyball since early 1992 and the beach circuit.

For the past five years, Smokey has continued with volleyball while also being one of the Varsity coaches for the Etiwanda High School Girl's Softball teams. Here, he helped build winning teams as the 2005, 2006 and 2007 champions of the Sultana Tournament; the 2008 and 2009 champions of the Baseline League; the champions of the 2009 San Dimas Classic Tournament; the 2009 champions of the Jurupa Valley Tournament and the 2009 champions of the CIF Division 2 Southern Sectionals.

Smokey's success in helping build winning teams comes from his enthusiasm for sports, his depth of understanding as a player, coach and statistician.

As a valued member of the staff, Smokey brings to SportsWorld an endless amount of energy, the desire to help others reach their individual potential and a keen eye in sports.

Stephanie Michaud

Born and raised in Rancho Cucamonga, Stephanie played volleyball throughout high school; two years on Varsity.

Following high school, Stephanie remained active in volleyball by coaching for two well established clubs in the area; one for a season, the other for three.

She recently completed her Bachelor of Arts at Cal Poly Pomona and is currently coaching for her alma mater, Rancho Cucamonga High School, while pursuing a career in teaching.

Lorna Gillam

Lorna began playing volleyball while in junior high school, then continued in high school. She picked it up again as an adult by playing in local organized church and city leagues.

As an active adult player, with a daughter emerging on to the volleyball scene, Lorna continually updates her knowledge and experience with volleyball's latest techniques, rule-changes and team strategies.

This has also helped Lorna as she has coached city league teams; having led two teams as high as 2nd and 5th in their divisions during separate seasons.

Her passion for the sport, caring nature with kids and ability to understand the sport from the perspectives of both player and coach; make her a strong placement as a coach within our Junior League division.
